Not sure what services you need or where to start?
At WestMass ElderCare, we believe in empowering people to take an active role in their own care. Our staff work to help you through each step of the process, from evaluating what type of help you need, to teaching you how to successfully hire and manage a Personal Care Assistant (PCA). We want to make sure that you have the knowledge, resources, and confidence to receive the best care possible.
The first step is to have one of our Nurses and an Occupational Therapist (OT) visit you and evaluate your unique situation with your input and help. The Nurse and OT will then assess the level of support you need and identify the tasks that a PCA could help you with. The assessment will then be submitted to MassHealth. Once we receive their determination, it’s time for you to find a PCA or PCAs.
Our team will provide guidance on finding and hiring a suitable PCA of your choice, whether they’re a friend or family member, or someone you find through the state PCA directory. Your Skills Trainer will help you navigate the selection process to find someone who fits your needs and possesses the experience, compassion and dedication necessary for the role of your PCA.
Training and managing a PCA can be a challenging task, but don’t worry – we’re here to give you the tools to get through it. Your Skills Trainer will equip you with the knowledge and skills to train and supervise your PCA. We’ll cover topics such as communication techniques, establishing routines and schedules, and understanding boundaries, ensuring that you and your PCA develop a strong and compatible caregiving relationship.
Navigating the paperwork and timesheets involved with having a PCA can seem overwhelming, but we’ve got you covered.
Your Skills Trainer will provide you with the information and training you need to hire, register and set up your new PCA, either through paperwork or on the computer. We will help guide you through the process and answer any questions you have, so you can relax and focus on receiving excellent care.
Throughout your journey with WestMass ElderCare’s Personal Care Assistant Program, our friendly and knowledgeable team will provide you with the support, information and tools you need to continue to live independently in your own home.
